Today marks the 15th anniversary of Jay-Z’s first album Reasonable Doubt. It was the summer of 1996 in San Francisco and I recently graduated from 8th grade at Marina Middle School. Me and my big brother were about to embark on a 2 week vacation to Florida that night to visit family as part of my grad present. That tape (yes, bought it on cassette) was on my to do list before we hopped on that plane, as well as Resident Evil for Playstation one! (The Sony Playstation was also a grad present! I love my parents). Me and my brother took turns with the walkman during the flight and we each listened to it back to back twice! Brooklyns’s Finest bein the standout track at the time. From that day on it remained one of my favorite albums ever & still gets #HeavyRotation today like it first came out. So to all my Reasonable Doubt fans, bump this album today and remember it like it was your first.

I still remember the day when my big brother got me the Ready To Die cassette tape for X-mas of 1994. This timeless classic serves as one of my all-time favorite albums to this day. I was a fan of his 2nd album Life After Death but nothin compares to his debut. Click below for a listening session of my best Biggie tracks and witness one of the best to ever do it.

The Dogg Pound released one of the best albums in 2010 titled 100 Wayz. The first single & one of my favorite tracks Dogg Pound Gangstaz brought back the sound they were known for in the early to mid 90’s. The main groove of this track is a fuzzed out guitar loop, but this whole time i thought it was a customized keyboard patch birthed in there studio. Turns out its sampled from the Ronnie Laws song Fever. Once i put the 2 together It really blew my mind how sumthin so simple can be turned into sumthin great. I came across this Ronnie Laws sample a couple times during my years of record diggin & never thought it could turn into sumthin like this. Click Read More below to hear the original sample & The Dogg Pound version!

“Dogg Pound Gangstaz” Was Produced By Daz & Soopafly

West coast classic group The Alkaholiks (J-Ro,Tash & E-Swift) Took Cali Hip-Hop into new heights with there party jams, off the wall production and there liquor induced rhymes. I myself have been a fan of The Alkaholiks since there 1993 debut album 21 & Over. Still to this day that album has tons of replay value and remains a timeless Hip-Hop classic in my neverending music collection. There second album Coast II Coast was released in 1995 with the hit single Daaam as well as the Diamond D produced The Next Level. 1997’s Likwidation serves as another favorite of mine with the ODB powered single Hip-Hop Drunkies. 2001’s X.O. Experience was aimed for more commercial appeal and there 2006 farewell album Firewater proved that they havent lost a step. Rumors have circulated about a reunion album but only time will tell. Click below for my all time Alkaholik songs, videos and a added bonus.
